Yellowstone Part I: The Bear Hunt By Car

We're going on a bear hunt. We're going to catch a big one!

What a beautiful day! We're not scared.

We read the book on our way in and the kids were pumped!!! But just as quickly as the binoculars came out, they decided they hate Yellowstone! There are no bears, and all we do is drive and driiiiive!!!

What, it's not fun for kids, ages 5 and under to stare out a car window for hours? But they only gave it maybe 20 minutes before the complaints started, along with my mom guilt (relentless and evil opportunist).

I should have made it clear that we might not see one. I made it sound like Bear World in there! The hunt itself was suppose to be cool enough. But, the lucky kids in the book got to swish swash through grass, squelch squirch through mud, and swishy swashy through the river!

We did see this. An elk, I think. Chad woke me up and I took this photo practically with my eyes shut. Then I was back to REM just as quickly. I can't believe I slept through most of our day in Yellowstone!! I've got aches of regret just thinking about it. Ugh! Next time, we'll try not to go after only 4 hours sleep the night before.

Poor Chad was the only one awake to enjoy Mother Nature for hours from the car. All I got were a few drowsy glances out the window for something so spectacular he couldn't view alone.

We did, however, make it out of the car a few times. Yellowstone Part II coming soon!

That picture of Sydney looking out the binoculars is really funny! How sad that they really thought they would see a bear and didn't! lol

What a bummer that you slept! I'm sure you still enjoyed some of the beauty. Where did you get Sidneys cute booster seat? Is that a custom cover?

Hi Crystal! I got her car seat at Burlington Coat Factory. Kind of weird huh? They have a big baby depot in the back of the store.

So when I went to Yellowstone as a child my Dad decided that the family could enjoy seeing that nature from the car going 60 mph the whole entire time. I still get car sick when I think about it :S
