First Day of School Part II: Chasing Sydney

We almost missed the bus. At 11:15 I thought, hmmm wonder what time the bus comes? By the time I found out that it picked up at 11:40, we had 10 minutes to get out the door! I was full of nervous excitement which made me even more obnoxious than usual, singing, laughing, and running to the bus stop holding barefooted Allie, with Sydney and Jack running up ahead.

I was so glad she had another little bus rider to wait with.
And SO glad I had a minute to take a few pictures, and Sydney had a chance to fidget a bit.

How's my backpack?

Got my watch. Where's that bus?
I was surprised by my calmness and lack of emotion.

Until I saw this. Then panic! I swooped Allie up back into my arms, yelled at Jack to follow me, ran back to the house, jumped into the car and chased down the bus, along with the caravan of minivans I saw directly behind it when it took off!

Then Slipping Through My Fingers just had to be playing on my CD player!! It took me a few moments after turning the music off to regain enough composure to get out of the car. But I was surprised because I didn't know the tears would be more happy than sad! I was soooo, so happy for her! It was just like the happy crying I couldn't control on the way to her first ballet class!

Then we got to the school, jumped out of the car, and hid under this tree to wait for Sydney to exit the bus and to make sure she gets to her classroom. Jack brought his binoculars -to help him find the bus, he said.

Still waiting...
I didn't want Sydney to know we were on her tail and had planned to remain hidden, but when I saw all the other moms and dads chasing their kids with cameras, I had to join the rumpus too!

First we at least waited behind the fence. I wasn't going to shout out to her, but suddenly my mouth just started: SYYYYYYDNEEEEEY!!!! I had no control.

Then suddenly I was IN the gate. Everyone else was doing it! It looked like graduation day in there! Ha ha! The kids waited in line for the teacher to call their name, after which they could walk into the classroom.

Look at that confident march! You go girl!! See the cute little boy in the red shirt (who's kind of checking her out)? He was in her preschool class, the one I joked that I wanted her to marry in my Valentine's Day post. I was so excited when I found out he was in her Kindergarten class too! Must be fate! :)

Look at the little patootie in the black shirt. He had just been sobbing and clinging to his mom and still looks lonely and scared! Ah, poor little honey! Don't you just want to give him a squeeze?! He's holding onto his finger!

Then I even dared enter the classroom. Just me and one other persistent mom who I happened to just love instantly, and we soon discovered our names are both Deann! She's Dee Dee. I was like, no way I'm DEEEEE! Then after a few side glances from the teacher (we were being a bit loud and disruptive) we left the building!

So it all begins now. I will be chasing her for the rest of my days.

Dee-- You are HILARIOUS!!!!! And I love it!!!!! I love you!!!! Get this-- today was also our first day of school. Well, I was asked to bring a breakfast casserole for a "Boo Hoo" Breakfast for kindergarten parents, so I got up early and started that, made lunches and got myself ready. I didn't want things rushed or too crazy on their first day of second grade and fifth grade. Things were going pretty good, until I get close to school and I can't find ANYWHERE to park-- because I have Chance and Conner with me, 9 mo. pregnant and a big, hot casserole dish!! So I tell Bridger and McKayla that I will drop them off in front so that they are not late for their first day-- I give them hugs and kisses and start to drive away, when I see a mom following her daughter with a camcorder-- and I realize that I forgot to take FIRST DAY PICTURES!!!!!! I feel soooooo bad that tears start surfacing (hormonal?). Finally I park in front, handicapped, with my blinkers on to take the dumb breakfast casserole in. But I have decided I will take "second day" photos, so I calm down and go home where I put Noggin on for Chance and Conner and took a two hour nap on the couch!!!! Long comment, sorry!!!

Oh my! Does Sydney ever tell you to go away?
I didn't cry, I thought I would but I was so nervous to leave her there! It's such a big school and she is still so little!

My gosh Sydney was the cutest most brightest little girl in the class! We loved her apple ensemble! What a funny morning! I was cracking up at the last picture. She was probably so embarrassed you were still hanging around thinking to herself when is she going to leave!

That was funny! I love that she got to ride the bus to school and that all of the parents followed! She looked so happy and excited! That little boy in the black shirt looked so sad, poor little guy. I'm actually shocked Julia didn't cry. She did good! I always have had a little empty feeling in my stomach when they go into the classroom. You really are letting go in a huge way. Have a great Kindergarten year Sydney!

Deann you need to call me ASAP. I have to dish on the assessment Julia went through yesterday. Sydney will probably get something similar. Julia wasn't quite prepared. If you want a heads up give me a call.

Deann--
She is absolutely adorable in all her curls and apples. I can't believe she is in school, they are too little.
I also love your yellowstone pics, they're so cute.
