sunday drive

Lilly Lake -cutest one I've ever seen!

Chad and I looooove a Sunday drive. So on Father's Day, after a big breakfast, we drove to Provo Falls, which is in the mountains near Park City, somewhere. By the time we were around 20 miles out of Heber and apparently nowhere I panicked, realizing I hadn't packed any food to bring. Just the threat of no food options in sight freaks me out and makes me feel starved, instantly. We were all going to get hungry and who can enjoy the falls that way? Then Jack, who is perpetually famished, informed us of his growing appetite in a creative new way: I'm really getting hungry in this outfit he declared, with threatening undertones. Chad said we could always stop at a gas station, he knew where one was. I tried not to pout, but a gas station...blah!
Then there was Kamas! A cutie little mountain town about 15 minutes outside Park City, a town I didn't know had great places to eat on a Sunday afternoon like the Beaver Creek Cafe! I also didn't know of a different sort of place there...go to deesditty if you don't already know. I was so excited to check out this small-town cafe. Maybe it was just the Harleys parked in front, but I felt like such an out-of-towner! I love how an almost 2 hour drive to an unfamiliar place for a day can feel like an entire weekend getaway.
I really wanted to try the fish n' chips, but they were out, so I went with a grilled processed cheese sandwich on wonderbread, and fries with a pickle on the side - good, classic American "food". The salad bar was on wheels and looked like it was manufactured by Little Tikes. Same plastic the kids' slide is made of. It was arranged with Dole iceberg salad mix and like 3 other things, including those bacon bits that have no bacon. But this just added to the whole charm of the place, which I will gladly return to again.

One thing I can really rave about are the FRIES. The best I've had in a long time. They are the dark golden, bumpy kind I've seen before but can't recall where. I bet they have good poppers too. I'm totally getting those next time.

I loooove Jack's face when he's eats.

Food makes him serious, and he really concentrates.

Three at time. That's how I like to eat my fries too.

Provo Falls, with tummies full, was perfect.

Just checking out the scene.

I love this picture of Sydney. She's in her element and soooo happy.

We took a complete family picture but I couldn't post it b/c my hair blended in perfectly with one of the rocks in the back, and I look like a pineapple head. Just Daddy and kids is suitable for Father's Day anyway.

I had to seize these camera-happy moments with Jack.

Sometimes I wonder how much of my picture taking robs them of the moments joy. I tell myself I'll only shoot some candids and they won't even notice, but I can't seem to resist the urge to grab their attention constantly. Sydee! Jack! Allie! Hey, over here! And then... cheeeeeeese!!! Every time! I feel like the most annoying mom ever, but still I do it.

Allie who was in NO mood to smile for the birdie. Could've been so beautiful! :(

A perfect climbing rock.

Jack's like, maybe if I just make funny faces she'll go away.

I think he thinks I'm gone in this one.

Me and my Jack, singing together by the waterfall.

My favorite shot of the day! I LOVE the way Sydney is sitting.
That's my lady!

I added this just to point out Allie's resemblance to my Grandma Dot -to my mom and sisters. I really see it here. I think she has her nose. What do you think?

We have a most-loved picture of 14 month-old Sydney at one of these same trees, hanging on our family room wall.
So I wanted one of her now, four years later.

I made up a game of peek-a-boo in the trees to get her to look at me.

Here is the Allie equivalent to baby Sydney's tree picture that we hoped would be just as precious...
But she didn't share our hopes and would not cooperate after several attempts. We eventually tried to get her to stand there, maybe give us a giggle or two, by hanging her monkey on the tree, that stuffed thing seen in all these pictures that she would not stop carrying around -all it did was make her mad. Again, could have been so beautiful!

Allie likes to feel free and make me chase her around to get a good one.

Jack made us laugh the whole way home with his comments about all the old cabins he was seeing out the window. So here's one more Jack quote: I hate that house. It has no garage for a car...(pause) and it's dark brown.

My family used to go on Sunday drives growing up. Some days I loved them, other days I felt trapped in a car. You've got some really great pictures! You guys look all matchy matchy and everything. I want to see the pineapple head one, maybe we can fix it in photoshop.

I have been in a bad mood all day because of pms and it is TOO HOT! But you put a smile on my face and even made me laugh out loud! Jack is so funny. I HAVE to see the pineapple head picture now and Allie does look like Grandma Dot in that picture!

Your kids are soooo cute! IT was great seeing you, Greg, and your parents last night. I was able to hop on a non-blocked computer to pull up my facebook profile to make sure you remember to send my email on ...also, to check out your BLOG :-)
Anyway, keep in touch! I'd love to hear more about you and your cute little family! I was so shocked last night at how time has flown....I can't believe you have 3 kids!!! I just sat there thinking...you and Greg have kids--where has time gone! I didn't even ask you more about them, what your hubby does, what you have been up to since the last time I saw you (when you visited Leah at our condo)...etc--I am such a dork!
Anyway, drop me a line...I'd love to hear from you. By the way, did you know Jody (Wyler) is living down by you. Her kids also go to Saratoga Shores. Chamberlains are down that way as well....have you seen them?
