...are the names he gave to his sleeping companions tonight. I'll NEVER stop laughing -but he doesn't know. Good names, I told him. They both start with R, he replied proudly. I have NO idea what inspired, gotta type it again, Ron and Rucilla for his sister's boy and girl twins.
From his first night in the world, Jack has been our sleeping companion. Other than the few times he slept in the cradle, Chad's cozy chest was the only place he'd slumber. Still he stumbles down the slide from his bed in the dark, (this super cool, big boy bed was suppose to get him out of our bed), sometime during the wee hours of most nights, to sleep with us. I think it's adorable. Chad thinks he hates his lack of sleep on the edge of his own bed!
Our nighttime intruder will agree to at least fall asleep in his own bed, under three conditions: he gets to keep a light on, sleep with one of my blankets, and have as many stuffed animals, dolls, barbies, books, and Buzz Lightyear toys he can think of to trouble us to gather for him. It's like he's punishing us for not letting him sleep in our bed. And we do this, because it's easier to toss a few things onto his bed than hear a protest and the door opening two minutes after all the nighty night wishes. Wow, just realized we're so not in charge on this one.
But I just wonder...
is it really too much for a child to ask, not to sleep alone? I sleep with Chad, the girls sleep together in their room, yet Jack is the one who really, really hates to be alone. Is that really fair? He always asks if I'll go to bed with him. I really would, and have tried this, but he just doesn't stop talking if I'm in there so it doesn't work. Poor little guy. I woke up this morning to find him sleeping on the floor next to Allie's bed with his blanket and pillow he'd dragged in. The little cuddler just wants to sleep with someone! Should I continue the tough love, sleep-with-your-toys method? Move him into the girls' room? At least just for nights? Oh no, but then the three of them would never go to sleep! I don't know what to do, other than what I am doing, and still I feel bad for him.
Here's Jack's goodnight poem.
In Bed with Cuddly Creatures
Who's tucked up with me in bed?
Peter Panda
And Foxy Fred
Ally-Gator
Floppy Frog
Old Captain Hook
And Diddly dog
Spotty Snake
And One-Armed Ted
All tucked up with me in bed.

All of my kids sleep together even though Kennedy has her own room. I'm thinking eventually she will want her own space? She likes to wander into our room as well. If it is still dark outside, she knows she has to go back to her bed. But if it is light (but still too early to get up) we have one of those kid couches on the floor next to our bed she can lay on.
he is so cute i want him to marry remi!
I love Jack! He is the sweetest boy ever! I don't know what I would do in this situation. I'm kind of a tough it out kind of Mom because I think in the long run when he is sleeping every night all night in his own bed it will be worth it. But the way you put it about him being the only one all alone does seem pretty heart breaking! Well, maybe you just need to try one more time to give him a brother so they can share a room!!! HAHA I know Chad will not like that suggestion. =)
Adorable little face there!
I can't help you on the sleeping arrangements - I happened to read something about the benefits of a family bed when Lex was little and, well, long story short, she is still sleeping with me!
Deann, that is hilarious! What funny names! Jack is the best. He needs to come back to Auntie Jackie's so I can make him some pancakes!
Oh sweet Jackers. It's true, there is no one sweeter than that little boy. Except Sydee- and Ali when she wants to be. Hee. Anyway, I have no idea how to weigh in on this one. I don't think there's any harm in whatever avenue you choose. As long as he doesn't wake up the girls it's okay. And as long as you and Chad get the sleep you guys need. But if you laid down the boom and worked with him on sleeping alone, I don't think it'd be traumatizing for him. Do you guys do closet checks and under the bed checks so he knows nothing is hiding there? Or is it that he just wants to wake up with someone?
If I had twins I would name them Ron and Rucilla. Too bad Brad and Angelina don't read your blog!
That is so dang sweet! Move him in with his "sissys". Poor boy. But never let him move in with you!
