Kiddie Updates:
Sydney is reading!!! Watching her sound out a word so patiently, running her little finger under it over and over until she is able to blurt it out, is one of the cutest and proudest moments for me! She loves to read books to Allie now.
Conner is still the coolest kid in school. Sydney reports how naughty and funny he was every day after school. His biggest move recently was throwing away Sydney's valentine to him because it was pink. I remember her telling me that the boys would be mad if they got pink so she had tried to make sure all the boys got a red one from her. :( When I asked if this hurt her feelings she said, "only a little". She is so good about letting thing go.
Jack continues to show a refined taste in music that makes me so happy! I have been playing Tiny Dancer in the car lately. He really likes "blue jean baby" and corrects anyone who calls it anything else. He loves to play his trumpet and dance with me.
He is also on his way to reading, but I can't get him to be serious longer than 2 minutes at a time. He loves to tease me by saying all the letter sounds wrong, which leaves me feeling frustrated and him laughing victoriously and thinking he's hilarious!
Allie has figured out a way to fend off her siblings when they won't leave her alone, yelling "GO!" She loves to play music on her toy CD players and dance. Cookie is her new favorite word and she says "cookie, cookie" all day long! It seems like she will never stop saying it until we give her one. So I bought animal crackers from Costco that are satisfying her at the moment. She loves food!
The beloved "huggie" is slowly disappearing as she chews on it all day long, and it gets so stinky and shredded that I have no choice but to keep cutting parts of it off! She won't even eat without it, so it ends up with ketchup and peanut butter on it. Then the washing of the huggie is unbearable, and Allie ends up wandering the house whimpering like she is mourning a lost puppy. Our new strategy is to give her the huggie and two other backup huggies when she goes to bed, so that she will slowly grow an attachment to these other ones too. It seemed to work last night as I put her to bed, saying "here is huggie, and Sydney's huggie, and your pink lamb huggie!!! You have three huggies Allie! What a lucky girl!" And she squealed and giggled and squeezed them all! It was huggie heaven!

I'm glad you are feeling good again!
I was hoping the weather was going to stay nice, but now it is snowing outside again!
I used to have the same problem with Kennedy being silly with reading. I resorted to the bribery of a treat afterward. If she does good and takes it seriously, then when she is finished she gets a piece of candy (one of her favorite kinds that I now only give her just for this purpose). It is really hard for her to stay serious for the entire time, so usually we do the three strike rule, as long as we don't reach three by the time she is finished she gets her candy. That has really helped, something like that may help Jack.
I don't know what or who huggie is, do you have a picture?
I love your ideas. I am always excited to see what is going on at your house so I can get inspired to get out and do fun things with my kids. I love how easy-going your kids are! I cant wait for spring! only one more month until our birthdays, which isnt as exciting anymore...
Now my kids are sick! I need a girls night I still want to go to cheesecake factory I missed it last time! or a movie! what do you think?
I think we should plan something soon! I'll call you.
A huggie is a little soft square with silky edges. Babies love to sleep with them. I don't remember what they are really called...that's just what our kids call them. OH, a hug-a-boo is what it is.
Hee heeeeeeeee. I never can believe how your kids' personalities are so THEM from day one through the present. I feel bad for Syd. That was her big chance with Conner and she gave him a Valentine he couldn't deal with! Jack is too funny. Maybe if you read lyrics together that would get him reading. You could play piano and he could be the front man. He's known his letters for SO long. I feel so bad for Allie, being everyone's toy. But it sounds like she can handle herself. Sydney would have had a complex if she was third in line and everyone's toy.
