REMEMBER THESE?
My sister had some when we were kids. And in high school she babysat them for a friend who was on vacation. Sydee saw them in a store and talked about them for weeks before I finally
decided to let her buy them with her piggy bank money. I could tell she wasn't sure if they would freak her out or not but the idea of taking sea monkeys to school for show and tell in a key chain was too good. She told me the boys were going to love it because they like gross things. Within a week they went from little clear crystals to tadpole-like creatures swimming all around just by adding water. Crazy.
I felt weird about bringing something to life, but my desire for her to experience the joys of being the envy of all her classmates and the definition of coolness for a day won out. She came home and reported that everyone wanted to see them. Kids were swarming all around. I'm so glad that she had this totally self-absorbed, need-to-be-admired moment! It reminds me of my toy clown that played the drums. I took it to school for show and tell and it was a roaring success. I marched home with that clown held high above my head, playing it's drums while a pack of kids followed me the whole way down the hill. The power of a drum beatin' clown to lift a kid up!
The sea monkeys come in a fish tank sort of thing, but you can now take some of them to school with you in this key chain and be oh so cool.
